Most SaaS companies collect reviews the same way: someone remembers to ask a happy customer, sends a manual email, and gets 1–2 reviews when the customer happens to see it on a good day. The result is a thin review profile that grows slowly and inconsistently — and goes completely cold during busy quarters.
Reviews are one of the highest-trust signals in SaaS buying decisions. G2, Capterra, Google, and Facebook reviews are read by buyers who have already shortlisted your product. A thin review profile signals that your customer base either doesn’t exist or isn’t enthusiastic. Neither is a good signal during a competitive evaluation.

- Successful support resolution — When a support ticket moves to “Resolved” in GHL and the customer reply sentiment is positive, a review request fires 24 hours after resolution.
- Subscription renewal — When a Stripe or Chargebee renewal webhook fires, the contact receives a review request at the 7-day mark after renewal.
- NPS score 8+ — If you run an NPS survey (built into the snapshot), contacts who respond with an 8, 9, or 10 automatically receive a review request within 2 hours of their response.
The review request flow
Step 1 — Warm SMS (Day 0): “Hi [Name] — glad to see [Product] is working well for your team! If you have 2 minutes, a quick Google review would mean a lot to us: [link]. No pressure — reply ‘busy’ if now isn’t the right time.”
Step 2 — Email follow-up (Day 3, if no review left): Slightly longer, mentions the specific value the customer has received. Direct links to Google review, Facebook review, and optionally G2 or Capterra.
Step 3 — Final nudge (Day 7, if still no review): Short, human-sounding. “Still happy with [Product]? Even a sentence helps — here’s the link: [Google]. Thanks.”
Exit condition: The moment a review is detected (via GHL tag from a manual check, or the customer replies with a screenshot), all pending follow-ups are cancelled immediately.
Platform links and detection
The snapshot pre-configures review links for Google Business Profile and Facebook — both set up during onboarding. For products on G2 or Capterra, additional links are added to the email step.
GHL cannot automatically detect when a review is posted on Google or Facebook (no public API for that). Review detection is semi-automated: the snapshot includes a weekly review-check task for a team member, and a GHL smart list of contacts who received a review request but haven’t been tagged as “reviewed” — making it easy to manually confirm and close out the loop.

Can I customize which review platforms the request links to?
Yes — during setup, you provide your Google Business Profile review link, Facebook review link, and optionally your G2 or Capterra profile URL. The email template includes buttons for each platform. The SMS step uses your primary platform link (usually Google). You can add or remove platforms during the initial configuration session.
What if a customer leaves a negative review — does this automation prevent it?
The automation targets high-satisfaction moments (activation, NPS 8+, renewal) to maximize the probability of a positive outcome, but it cannot prevent a dissatisfied customer from leaving a negative review. The snapshot includes sentiment detection in the NPS flow: contacts with NPS scores of 1–6 are routed to a retention conversation rather than a review request.
How do I make sure I'm not sending review requests to recently churned customers?
The review request workflow has a churn-check branch: before firing, it checks whether the contact has a `churned` or `subscription_cancelled` tag. If present, the review request is suppressed and the contact is routed to a win-back sequence instead. Active subscribers and recently onboarded contacts are the only ones who receive review requests.
Can I track how many reviews were generated from each automation trigger?
Yes — each trigger source (onboarding, support win, NPS, renewal) applies a source tag to the review request workflow. When a review is confirmed and the contact is tagged `review_received`, you can segment by source tag to see which trigger generated the most reviews. This data is useful for prioritizing which review moment to invest more in.
